Sonardyne has launched Observer, a subsea monitoring system designed to support real-time integrity management for offshore energy infrastructure. The product is positioned as an off-the-shelf platform that combines motion and position monitoring with built-in analytics and wireless subsea communications, aiming to give operators a continuous view of how assets behave in operating conditions rather than relying mainly on periodic inspection snapshots.

 

What It Measures and Why That Matters

 

Observer combines high and low frequency monitoring to capture both slow structural movements and faster dynamic responses. The intent is to detect behaviour linked to operational and environmental loads that are difficult to observe directly, including pipeline expansion and contraction, and vibration driven by currents and flow. By turning these behaviours into live data, the system is meant to support earlier intervention decisions, reduce unplanned downtime, and limit the cost and risk associated with emergency repair campaigns.
