Ownership & Funding

Who we are, who owns us, and how we are funded.

We believe readers deserve to know who stands behind the journalism they read. This page explains the ownership and funding of Ocean Economist.

1) Ownership

Ocean Economist is an independent, privately owned news and media platform. It is founded and operated by its founders and is not owned or controlled by any parent company, political party, or government. The publication is based in India and reports for a global audience.

2) How we are funded

Ocean Economist is currently self-funded by its founders. Should we carry advertising, sponsorship, or partner content in future, that revenue will support our operations and will never influence editorial decisions. Any commercial content will always be clearly labelled and kept separate from independent reporting, as set out in our Editorial Policy.

3) Editorial independence from funding

No funder, advertiser, or commercial partner has any influence over what we cover or the conclusions we reach. Our editorial team makes all editorial decisions independently, consistent with our Ethics & Standards.

4) Founded

Ocean Economist was founded in 2026 in India. It was created to fill a gap in dedicated, independent reporting on the global ocean economy — a sector that spans maritime trade, offshore energy, fisheries, and ocean climate science but receives limited sustained coverage in financial or environmental media.
