Indonesia has officially launched the National Action Plan (RENAKSI) for the Protection and Management of Blue Carbon Ecosystems 2025–2030, reinforcing its global leadership in climate mitigation through large-scale mangrove and seagrass restoration.
The launch, marks a major step in strengthening the country’s contribution to emissions reduction and nature-based climate solutions. With approximately 17 percent of the world’s blue carbon reserves, Indonesia plays a pivotal role in global carbon sequestration efforts. The country’s vast coastal assets include 3.45 million hectares of mangrove forests and 660,000 hectares of seagrass meadows.
According to Nani Hendiarti of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, the RENAKSI framework integrates implementation strategies with financing mechanisms grounded in Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) principles. This approach ensures that climate action is not only environmentally effective but also socially inclusive and equitable.
By aligning policy execution with targeted funding instruments, RENAKSI 2025–2030 aims to enhance ecosystem resilience, protect coastal communities, and unlock the full climate potential of Indonesia’s blue carbon ecosystems. The initiative positions Indonesia at the forefront of sustainable ocean governance and nature-based climate solutions in the Indo-Pacific region.
