German shipowner Leonhardt & Blumberg has retrofitted the first of four general cargo newbuilds with a wind-assisted propulsion system, describing it as a logical next step toward greener operations. The 6,000-deadweight-tonne Hansa Drejoe was fitted with Econowind VentoFoils, which are expected to deliver roughly 10 percent additional thrust and reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
