Oceanscan Group has opened a new 1,200 square metre facility in Dyce, Aberdeen, more than doubling its operational footprint from the previous Bridge of Don base where the company operated for more than 35 years. The new engineering facility brings together complementary capabilities from across the Venterra Group network, including INSPIRE Environmental and HPR, and is designed to support continued growth at a time when the subsea business has doubled in size over the past year.

Strategic Context and Growth Trajectory

The facility expansion reflects both the momentum that Oceanscan has built across Scotland, the United Kingdom, and Europe and the broader rise in offshore demand that is underpinning investment in subsea service capacity across the region. The move from Bridge of Don to the larger Dyce site represents more than a simple relocation, consolidating previously separate capabilities from across the Venterra Group into a single, integrated operational base. The timing aligns with Venterra Group's broader strategy of strengthening regional capability in key offshore markets, and follows what Oceanscan has described as a standout year of growth during which the subsea business doubled in size and positioned itself for continued expansion through 2026 and beyond.

Facility Capabilities and Technical Scope

The newly refurbished engineering facility provides advanced non-destructive testing and subsea calibration capabilities, strengthening Oceanscan's ability to support offshore campaigns through faster mobilisation, improved local delivery, and greater operational efficiency. NDT and subsea calibration are foundational capabilities for the offshore inspection, maintenance, and repair sector, supporting the integrity management of offshore structures, subsea equipment, and associated infrastructure. The consolidation of these capabilities at the new Dyce site, alongside the integration of INSPIRE Environmental and HPR functions, creates a more coherent service delivery platform that can support complex offshore campaigns with reduced logistics and coordination overhead.

Workforce and Capacity Expansion

Oceanscan's Aberdeen workforce has grown to 57 employees at the new facility, with physical space available to support an additional 30 roles across engineering, operations, sales, and finance functions. The capacity to absorb a further 30 positions without requiring additional premises investment provides operational flexibility as demand continues to grow, supporting the company's ability to scale staffing in response to market conditions without the lead time and cost associated with further property moves. The workforce expansion also reinforces Oceanscan's local presence in Aberdeen, which remains the principal hub for offshore oil and gas services in the United Kingdom and a growing centre for offshore wind operations and maintenance activity.

Integration of Venterra Group Capabilities

The colocation of INSPIRE Environmental and HPR with Oceanscan at the new site is commercially significant because it brings together distinct but complementary subsea and environmental service capabilities under a single operational roof. Integration across the Venterra Group network supports cross-selling opportunities, shared logistics, and the delivery of more comprehensive service packages to offshore operators who increasingly prefer suppliers capable of addressing multiple service requirements through a single point of contact. The group structure also provides resilience by allowing resources and expertise to be deployed across business units in response to campaign-specific demand patterns.

Outlook for UK and European Offshore Markets

Oceanscan chief growth officer Derek Donaldson has framed the opportunity across the United Kingdom and European region as significant, citing the momentum built at the previous base and the growing needs of customers as the commercial drivers behind the expansion. The offshore services market in the North Sea and adjacent European waters is being sustained by continued oil and gas production activity, the scaling of offshore wind operations and maintenance, and growing demand for subsea infrastructure inspection and integrity services as the installed asset base ages. The new Aberdeen facility positions Oceanscan to capture a larger share of this demand through improved delivery capability, faster mobilisation, and the integrated service offering that the Venterra Group consolidation enables.
