Pioneer Consulting has been contracted to supervise the engineering and design phase of the FISH West 2 submarine cable system for Cordova Telecom Cooperative in Alaska. Details of the Contract

The cable is designed to serve a substantial geographic area. FISH West 2 will be approximately 340 kilometres in length. This scale reflects the distances involved in connecting remote Alaskan communities. The system will extend high-speed broadband service to these areas. Many of these communities currently lack robust communications infrastructure.

 

Connection to the Wider Network

 

The project links to a related cable development in the region. FISH West 2 will use the existing landing point in Seward. This landing point is shared with the planned FISH West network. Sharing infrastructure in this way can improve the efficiency of the overall system. It reflects a coordinated approach across the connected projects.

The companion network extends connectivity to further communities. The FISH West network will connect Cordova and Seward. It will include branching units to Johnstone Point and the Village of Chenega. This 295-kilometre network is expected to be ready for service by the third quarter of 2027.
