Jumbo Offshore has completed its heavy-lift transport and offshore installation campaign for the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur (VMOS) project in Argentina. Announced on 5 November 2026, the work supports the development of a new oil export terminal near Punta Colorada, which will connect to Argentina's Vaca Muerta formation through a 437-kilometer pipeline.

Under a contract awarded by Altius S.A., Jumbo deployed its DP2 heavy-lift vessel Jumbo Javelin to transport two Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) buoys, each weighing about 340 tonnes, and two Pipeline End Manifolds (PLEMs) weighing up to 232 tonnes.

The campaign began in Muscat, Oman, where the equipment was loaded onto Jumbo Javelin through a ship-to-ship heavy-lift operation. After securing the cargo, the vessel traveled to Argentina via the Cape of Good Hope.

Upon arrival, Jumbo installed both PLEMs at approximately 40 meters water depth using the vessel's dynamic positioning capabilities. The company also discharged both CALM buoys, completing its contracted transport and installation scope.

The VMOS marine terminal will be located approximately 5–8 kilometers offshore Punta Colorada and is designed to accommodate Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). It will initially support oil exports of up to 550,000 barrels per day, with potential capacity expansion to 700,000 barrels per day.

Freek Muurling, Project Manager at Jumbo Offshore, said the campaign demonstrated the company's ability to combine long-distance heavy-lift transportation with offshore installation. The JSI Alliance secured the project with local support.

Although Jumbo's contracted work is complete, construction of the wider VMOS development is continuing ahead of the terminal's planned start-up and first oil exports.
